How to pick the photo in four steps
- Find a solo photo. Only one person or pet in the frame.
- Check the face. Both eyes visible, facing the camera, nothing covering it.
- Crop to head and shoulders. Close enough that the face is not small, with the shoulders in the frame.
- Skip filters. Use a natural, sharp photo in even light.
Will a random selfie work?
Usually yes, if both eyes are visible, nothing covers the face, and the photo is sharp. You do not need to pose with a burger or stare at the camera: the video supplies the window, the burger, the stare and the curtain. Facing the camera works better than a side angle.
Can I use a group photo?
Crop everyone else out. The video swaps in one subject, so with two faces the AI has to choose and can pick the wrong one. Keep your head and shoulders in the crop, and if cropping makes the face blurry or cuts off the head, use a different solo photo.
What to avoid
Sunglasses, masks, or a hand over the face; tiny or cut-off faces; heavy filters or beauty effects; and anyone under 18.
For a pet, use one animal alone, eyes visible, in good light, and crop out the background if it shows your home.
